Maramec Spring Park

On the way to Branson we stopped at the Maramec Spring Park. This is a Registered Natural Landmark under the provisions of the Historic Sites Act & contains the fifth largest spring in Missouri with an average daily water flow of 100 million gallons. This is the first spring to feed the Meramec River. The river is one of the longest free-flowing waterways in Missouri, at approximately 220 miles long & flows through the following MO counties: Dent, Phelps, Crawford, Franklin, Jefferson & St Louis. It also passes through Valley Park & Fenton before joining the Mississippi at Arnold. Spring water appears from a 17ft deep 'cave' under a huge bluff. The daily temperature of the Spring water is 56 degrees Fahrenheit. Since the spring water quality is good, & the temperature constant, the water is ideal breading ground for Trout. To take advantage of the excellent breeding conditions, a Trout fishery is located within the park.
