Forest Park

After leaving the art museum we drove around Forest Park to see what else we could do for the rest of the afternoon. Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the US & at 1,293 acres, it is approximately 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York. It opened to the public on June 24, 1876 & was the location for the 1904 World's Fair. It is also home to a number of the region’s major cultural institutions such as the Zoo, Art Museum, History Museum, Science Center & the Muny Opera. There are a number of sporting facilities within the park including golf courses, tennis courts, baseball pitches, cycle paths, the boating lake, fishing areas, & ice skating (during the winter). We passed the Jewel Box (which is a large conservatory containg various floral exhibits) & made our way to The Muny, which is an outdoor theater.
