Luxor

The Luxor is a 4,407 room hotel & casino owned & operated by MGM Mirage. It was one of the city's first fully-themed megaresorts & was built on the site of the old Pyramid House (opposite the airport). The Luxor was the hotel that I was most looking forward to seeing in Las Vegas, due to the futuristic look of the 350 ft tall very dark bronze glass pyramid (which appears black on clear days & a dark, golden-bronze on overcast days). This looks even cooler at night with the Starlight Lighting System, remote control light show along the edges of the pyramid & the vertical spotlight at the tip of the structure. Apparently, this is the brightest beam in the world, is visible from anywhere in the Las Vegas Valley at night, & can be seen at flight level from above Los Angeles (over 275 miles from Las Vegas). The light is generated using 39, 7kW lights that are rated at 41.5 Gigacandela or 30.2 billion Lumens (total). Supposedly, it is also possible to see this light beam from space! Another cool feature of the hotel is that since the guest rooms are located outer walls of the pyramid you can't access them using a normal lift that moves vertically since the rooms are at a 39-degree angle. The Luxor uses 'inclinators' that travel along at this angle & it feels pretty weird when going up & down in them.
